Fordlaw Limited — in a nutshell

What we do

Fordlaw is a UK-based legal resourcing business which provides the services of individual lawyers and other personnel on a consultancy basis to organisations in the UK requiring legal or other support.

We are a small, friendly and responsive team offering personal attention tailored to the needs of those we work with.

Who we are

We are two solicitors of England & Wales with many years of commercial practice between us, both in-house and in private practice.

Note: we are not in any way connected to any of the law firms with similar names to ours (e.g., Ford Law, or  Fordlaw).

How it works

Set up

there are three contract set-up stages:

1. We engage a lawyer or other consultant by way of a framework contract which creates the basis for Fordlaw to offer to supply his or her consultancy services through specific defined placements (each to be agreed separately).
2. Next we contract with a law firm or other organisation for the supply of the consultant’s services: a “placement.”
3. We agree the specifics of each placement with the consultant, and reflect those specifics in a separate “engagement schedule” under the framework contract.

Invoicing

details of timing and content of invoices will vary depending on the client’s procedures and requirements, but the contracts will be structured so that at agreed intervals the consultant invoices Fordlaw, Fordlaw then invoices the client and then as soon as the client pays, Fordlaw pays the consultant.

Tax

the consultant is an independent contractor (not a Fordlaw employee) and is responsible for his or her own tax and national insurance contributions including VAT if applicable.

Professional indemnity insurance

Fordlaw does not provide PI insurance cover; however, in cases where PI insurance cover is required for any placement, Fordlaw will seek to negotiate with the client with the aim of ensuring that the client's own PI insurance covers the consultant's work during and within the scope of the placement.
